Just a bunch of stuff that I noticed today.
Tonight, for the first time ever, I saw Mars. It was bright. And, surprisingly, it really is red. It was a beautiful day here today. We spent a lot of time in the new pool. I have to admit, as against the idea of a pool I initially was, it really is pretty neat. While everyone was swimming, I figured I would take the time to finish shoveling the remaining rocks from the driveway to the pool area. I then took a rake and smoothed out a lot of the yard to get ready for seeding. While still on the phase of carrying all these rocks, my neighbor showed up with his Kobota and we shoveled the rocks in to it and drove them to the area to be dumped. Only took us 4 trips with the right tools. I had been carrying the rocks up in 5 gallon buckets, 2 at a time, for weeks. Amazing.
For a while tonight it was only Megan, Bailey, and I in the pool. This time was amazing as we all hung out and talked about whatever came up. Our discussion was all about planets and we talked about them as we floated around and watched the clouds and tried to guess what they looked like. It was definitely the best part of the day and I immediately knew that it was going to be one of those moments that just burns in to your memory forever. You know? I love those moments. Wish I had more.
My girls, 3 and 7, have no idea how completely spoiled they are with technology.
They have never seen an 8 track tape. They have never seen a record. They have only had satellite, so they have never had cable. We have an UltimateTV from Microsoft, and can pause TV and record 2 shows at the same time while watching something else we have already recorded. We often skip right through commercials and watch a show in approximately 20 minutes. They have never seen, heard, or used a modem. We have sDSL. Our entire house is wireless, so they see laptops used all over the house and the yard. They see 4 computers in the house, and 1 of them is theirs. We have a home theater so they really feel like they are at the movies when we watch them. They were fascinated when I made them popcorn in a pot, since they had only seen it made in the microwave. If we look up anything in the encyclopedia, it is on the computer and has pictures, sound, and animation.
I was just thinking about all of this today as I was watching them play in the pool. Times are just flying by anymore. Megan will be 8 next week and those 8 years just blew right by, I hope the next 8 don’t go as fast. I am really enjoying watching them at this age.
